On Thursday, Dell introduced a number of new products in its Latitude and OptiPlex lines, as well as a Chromebox for meetings and a Chromebox for small- to medium-sized businesses. However, buried under all the new hardware announcements was a little gem that claims to be a world’s first: an Ultra HD 5K monitor.

That’s no typo; Dell has a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 (218 PPI). The actual name is the Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K Monitor, and it is aimed at professionals who need the highest display resolutions possible. It looks like Dell has provided precisely just that.

According to the company, the monitor has an anti-smudge, anti-reflective “edge-to-edge” screen. Specs are incomplete, but the display does come packed with a color depth of 1 billion colors, a miniDisplay Port for 4K input, two 16-watt Harmon Kardon speakers, six USB ports and an SD card reader.

Unfortunately, Dell provided only a preview of what’s to come; specifications such as refresh rates and the response time were not provided. However, the 5K monitor is slated to launch in 4Q 2014. What we do know is the pricing: $2,499.99.
