Star Wars Rebels will offer fans of a galaxy far, far away the first glimpse into the future of the franchise. And Disney has enough confidence in the animated venture to renew the show before it has even premiered.
Announced Thursday, ahead of the show’s debut, Disney has picked up Rebels for a second season. Executive producers Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg and co-executive producer Henry Gilroy will all remain on board with the series, which is produced by Lucasfilm.
Star Wars Rebels will debut tomorrow, Oct. 3, with a one-hour movie titled Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion on Disney Channel before the series proper begins on Disney XD on Oct. 13.
Rebels is set between the original Star Wars trilogy and the more recent prequel trilogy, tracking a group of rebels following the fall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Council. The series will be the first major peek into the future of the Star Wars universe after Disney wiped the slate clean of the franchise’s expanded universe.
