It will be hard to elude the magic of Descendants 2. The cast of the TV-movie sequel announced on Tuesday (in the video below) that it will premiere on Friday, July 21 at 8/7c — simultaneously on five total networks.
In addition to bowing on Disney Channel, the music-driven follow-up will air on ABC, Freeform, Disney XD and Lifetime, in what the kids tout as an “unprecedented” scheduling move.
With Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie), Cameron Boyce (Jessie), Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart and Mitchell Hope reprising their roles as Mal, Carlos, Jay, Evie and King Ben, Descendants 2 follows the offspring of Disney’s most infamous villains as they try to find their place in idyllic Auradon. When the pressure to be royally perfect becomes too much for Mal, she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost, where her archenemy Uma (the daughter of Ursula) has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town.
Threatened, Uma stirs her pirate gang — including Captain Hook’s son Harry and Gaston’s son Gil — to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all.
