An all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger is now reality — just in time for winter. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said this week that Dodge will add the awd 2017 Challenger GT to the muscle car’s already vast portfolio.
The automaker claims it is the first two-door muscle car with awd. It shares its awd system, which has an active transfer case and front-axle disconnect, with the Charger AWD. The Challenger GT is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 305 hp and 268 pounds-feet of torque. It rides on 19-inch wheels fitted with all-season performance tires.
The Challenger GT starts at $34,490, including shipping. Production is to begin in January with vehicles arriving at U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2017, FCA said. Dodge has sold 59,176 Challengers through the first 11 months of 2016, down 4.3 percent from the year-earlier period.
