“Downton Abbey” star Lesley Nicol has joined ABC’s “The Catch”. While no details on her character or storyline have been made available — in typical Shondaland fashion — sources say Nicol will have a substantial recurring role on the Thursday night drama.
The latest series from Shondaland, “The Catch” stars Mireille Enos as private investigator Alice Vaughan who is the victim of fraud by her fiancé (Peter Krause). The cat-and-mouse thriller also stars Sonya Walger, Rose Rollins, Elvy Yost, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido and Alimi Ballard.
Nicol starred on “Downton Abbey” as Mrs. Patmore for the series’ entirety.
Nicol’s casting comes after another British actor, John Simm, joined the cast, first reported by Variety. The “Doctor Who” and “Life on Mars” alum will play the mysterious benefactor behind Ben/Christopher (Krause) and Margot (Walger), who’s been footing the bill for their elaborate financial cons. As the leader of the organization they work for, they’re deeply in debt to him, and he’s coming to collect.
