Sony’s PS4 exclusive racing game, Driveclub will be out a full year later than expected, as a new trailer tries to prove it’ll be worth waiting for.
It was originally to have been a launch title (with a free PlayStation Plus version), then it was pushed back to the spring, and now Driveclub finally has a confirmed release date of October 8. (Which is a Wednesday, oddly, so it may be October 10 in the UK.)
Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida made the announcement that the game had a new director: Paul ‘Rushy’ Rustchynsky, whose last project at developer Evolution Studios was much-loved PS Vita download MotorStorm RC.
It’s not hard to imagine what the appointment of a new director means in terms of the game’s troubled development, but Yoshida insisted that the team is, ‘committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially-connected racing game’.
‘The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What Driveclub offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for’.
Precisely what Driveclub offers has never been that clear, and this lack of focus – with the game stuck between the two stools of arcade racer and simulation – is believed to have been one of the primary problems up to this point. The trailer below does look impressive, so we look forward to seeing the final product.
