Although his Charlie Hesketh character seemed to have met his demise in the 2015 original, Edward Holcroft is returning for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming Kingsman 2. Deadline has the news, reporting that the actor will be back for the 2017 followup. Whether or not he’ll be again playing Charlie, however, remains to be seen.
Matthew Vaughn is confirmed to direct Kingsman 2, the first sequel he’s ever personally helmed. Taron Egerton (Eddie the Eagle) is returning to his star-making role as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, who is now fully-trained secret agent. While the first film took place primarily in England, the new one is said to focus more on the USA and the American branch of the title covert Secret Service agency. Colin Firth is not expected to return in either a flashback or as a new character, although the possibility of him playing his own twin brother was bandied about before being abandoned.
20th Century Fox has set a June 16, 2017 release date for Kingsman: The Secret Service 2. Casting updates on the sequel so far have suggested that we will see Halle Berry join the franchise as the head of the CIA with Julianne Moore in talks to play the film’s central villain.
Edward Holcroft made his acting debut in director Mark Waters’ Vampire Academy in 2014. His other roles since then have included the television miniseries London Spy and Lady Chatterly’s Lover as well as National Theatre‘s live television performance of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liaison Dangereuses. He can also be seen coming up in director Ritesh Batra’s big screen adaptation of Julian Barnes’ The Sense of an Ending.
