Zac Efron, star of the recent comedy hit Neighbors, is teaming with Emily Ratajkowski, the rising star best known for Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video, for an upcoming feature film titled We Are Your Friends. Deadline has the news, reporting that the project will be directed by Max Joseph (“Catfish“).
Based on a script by Joseph and Meaghan Oppenheimer (from a story by Richard Silverman), We Are Your Friends is a coming-of-age drama set against the backdrop of the Hollywood electronic music scene. The film follows a young DJ, Cole, and an older DJ, James, who decides to mentor him. Unfortunately for them, a love triangle develops between Cole, James and James’ girlfriend, Sophie.
Shiloh Fernandez, Alex Shaffer and Jonny Weston are also said to be negotiations for roles.
Production on We Are Your Friends begins August 18 with Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing. Silverman will serve as executive producer.
