Emma Watson wants to play the title role in Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming live-action take on Cinderella, Variety reports. Cate Blanchett is already set to play the wicked stepmother with Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directing.
Watson starred last year in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and can be seen coming in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring and Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen’s This is the End.
Produced by Simon Kinberg, the film was originally written by The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna with subsequent rewrites by The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz.
Production is planned to begin this fall in London.
