Epson is continuing to work on its own attempt at Google Glass-style eyewear, with an update to its Moverio headset. The Moverio Pro BT-2000 improves upon last year’s model, with the device now including a five-megapixel stereo camera with depth sensing, as well as a new inertial measurement unit, allowing the headset to create more accurate augmented reality images than earlier models were capable of.
The physical design of the headset has been altered to make it more suitable for workplace use instead of in public, with the display-equipped glasses sat below a second band holding the camera and other sensors. The display is able to show a brighter image in the middle of the user’s eyeline, reports Slashgear, with it also including onboard voice control rather than relying on an Internet connection for transcription.
The extra remote control providing access to various on-screen functions has been simplified from last year’s model, switching to a number of buttons and a directional controller. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are also included, with it able to work with other external interfaces such as keyboards, and it also includes two exchangeable batteries for longer usage sessions with minimal interruption.
Aimed at enterprise customers, Epson is aiming to release the Moverio Pro BT-2000 headset in select markets in EMEA, Japan, and the United States this fall, though pricing has yet to be confirmed.
