Google has been fined record 2.42bn euros ($2.7bn; £2.1bn) by the European Commission due to a ruling the firm has used its search market power unfairly in promoting its own shopping comparison service at the top of search results.
The ruling also orders Google to end its anti-competitive practices within 90 days or face a further penalty.
The commission did not specify the fixed needed to be made, but wants Google to determine what changes should be made to its shopping service.
The US firm said it may appeal
If Google fails to change the way the shopping service works within the three-month deadline, it could fined 5% of its parent company Alphabet’s average daily worldwide earnings. Right now reports has the fine being about $14 million a day.
