Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini recently said the MeeGo mobile operating system developed in conjunction with Nokia remains to have a bright future, despite its recent announcement to produce Windows Phone 7 based handsets. “I don’t see that Nokia changing its strategy changes the industry strategy,” Otellini said in an interview with Bloomberg at Mobile World Congress. Carriers were still looking for an “open, operator-friendly” OS, he said.
MeeGo will come to tablets later in 2011 and will also find its way onto one Nokia handset as well as embedded devices in vehicles.
Nokia, which was Intel’s main partner in developing the software, said last week it will switch to Windows Phone 7 as its primary software for smartphones but will still devot some resources to the OS.
