Note-taking app Evernote has been attacked by hackers, in the latest in a long line of digital break-ins. The company has been forced to reset all passwords for its near-50 million users after sensitive data was pulled from servers by parties unknown, including usernames, account e-mail addresses, and encrypted passwords.
A company blog post claims that there is no evidence of payment details for premium or business customers being compromised in the attack, and that the passwords were “hashed and salted,” though to be safe, users logging into Evernote will be forced to reset their passwords.
The Evernote intrusion is the latest in a line of recent attacks against technology companies. Data for Tumblr, Twitter, and Pinterest were stolen during a Zendesk attack. At the same time such firms as the Microsoft, Facebook, New York Times, Washington Post are said to have been hit by hackers located in China.
