Microsoft has seemingly retired the Facebook and Twitter apps for the Xbox 360. The apps will be removed from the console when users are forced to run the mandatory Dashboard update, which is currently in the process of being deployed around the world. Users will no longer be able to read or update their status through the console directly, once they have been removed.
A representative for Microsoft spoke to IGN, saying “we’re retiring the Facebook and Twitter apps,” in an effort to “streamline” app functionality on the console. The company was asked if the apps will return to the console in the future, but chose not to comment.
Users needing to update their status on the social networks will be able to do so through the Internet Explorer 9 app, installed as part of the update.
