Facebook Does More Tweaks to News Feed

Facebook this week outlined several changes it is making to its News Feed in order to improve the quality and timeliness of stories.

The goal, says Facebook, is to deliver the most relevant stories to everyone. In order to do this, Facebook is first incorporating new signals to help it identify and rank authentic content.

For example, it will view likes, shares, and comments as signals of authenticity, but look at pages that are often spammy or hidden as clues against the content’s authenticity.

Second, Facebook is employing a new set of tools to help it predict and rank in real-time when posts might be most relevant to users.

In order to do this, it will look at engagement, such as comments from friends or lots of shares, as signs that the page or content might be of interest. Facebook says the updated News Feed behaviors are rolling out now.
