Final Fantasy 15 fans have been treated to some bad news today, as the game has been delayed from its original September release date. Final Fantasy XV, which was originally supposed to launch on September 30, will now be released on November 29 for Xbox One and PS4.
According to Square Enix, the new release date gives the development team more time to polish the game and conduct quality testing. This is so Final Fantasy XV can “match the expectations of both the fans and creative teams”. The bad news was delivered by game director Hajime Tabata, who apologised to fans in a heartfelt message on Youtube.
Interestingly, Tabata revealed that the team had been working on a day-one patch for the game, but understood that not everybody would have the means to apply it.
“However, a patch is not something that can be applied by all players who have bought the game,” Final Fantasy XV director Tabata said. “It is impossible to provide this patch to everyone who plays without connecting their games machine to the internet.
“On top of that, the day one patch has some pretty substantial content in it, but to me feels as though it is still one step away from that truly ultimate quality we are striving for.” Tabata elaborated on the decision in a separate statement: “From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series.
“Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this. As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”
