After making a bold leap from the popular Great British Bake Off, hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc have landed on their feet and scored their very own six-episode assassin sitcom, Radio Times reports. Developed by Sky One, Hitmen will star Mel and Sue as a pair of best friends and hapless killers, whose assassin jobs are often derailed by their endless bickering.
Known as The Great British Bake Off in its home country, Love Productions moved the series from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2016. Mel and Sue departed in the network hand-off, stating at the time: “We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was… we’re not going with the dough.” Berry announced her departure shortly thereafter, leaving only Paul Hollywood from the original cast.
Mel and Sue will play Fran and Jamie, an lovable goof and a sensitive soul who work out of a raggedy van to carry out their hits. Hitmen was written by Joe Parham and Joe Markham, with script input from Mel and Sue. The series is set to premiere on Sky One in 2019.
“We are so excited to be working with the truly fantastic female comedy partnership that is Mel and Sue, who can brandish bullets and banter brilliantly in equal measure,” said executive producer Myfanwy Moore.
