“Smash” star Krysta Rodriguez has joined NBC’s John Lithgow-led comedy pilot “The Trail.” Rodriguez will play Summer Henderson, the free-spirited adopted daughter of Larry Henderson (Lithgow), who comes back to town to help her father, who is accused of murdering his wife.
She joins the previously cast Lithgow, Sherri Shepherd, Nicholas D’Agosto, Jayma Mays and Steven Boyer. The comedy follows the arrest and murder trial of a beloved poetry professor from a small Southern town, and the young “Northeastern” lawyer and team hired to defend him.
The single-camera serialized comedy hails from Barge Productions and Good Session Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is created by writers Jeff Astrof (“The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Angie Tribeca”) and Matt Miller, who was behind the short lived but fan-favorite ABC series “Forever.”
A veteran of Broadway who has played key roles in hits such as “Spring Awakening,” “In the Heights” and “The Addams Family,” Rodriguez has recently appeared on the small screen in NBC’s “Mysteries of Laura” and ABC Family’s cancelled drama “Chasing Life.”
