secret-service-issue-oneIt is far from a secret that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has been keen to bring Mark Millar’s Marvel Icon series The Secret Service to the silver screen. Originally set up at Universal Pictures, Deadline is today reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has secured the rights to a big screen adaptation.

The series, illustrated by Dave Gibbons, tells the story of a British secret agent who recruits and begins to train his rebellious nephew.

“Secret Service is [about] the ramifications of [how] America is struggling on the world stage,” Millar wrote of the series in its original solicitation. “Funding is being seriously undercut to balance the books and some people are trying their best to take advantage of the fragile global situation. The hero and sidekick guys who lead the book are, I think, the best characters I’ve written.”

Although casting is likely still a ways off, Millar previously confirmed that he and Vaughn want Mark Hamill to appear as himself, as he does in the comic.

The Secret Service is now set to begin production in August with a release date November 2014 .
