Fox TV has renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons, meaning the animated sitcom will reach the highest number of episodes of any scripted television show ever. The renewal for its 29th and 30th seasons takes the long-running show to 669 episodes, breaking the record previously set by CBS’s Gunsmoke, which reached 635 installments.
“This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, in a co-statement.
The Simpsons is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. James L Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean are the executive producers. The show has been a mainstay on channels around the world since the 1990s.
