BroadchurchAnother Britsh import is about to get the Stars and Stripes treatment, FOX is planning to remake the British crime drama “Broadchurch” as part of its roster of “event series” (formerly known as miniseries).

The series follows the investigation of a young boy’s murder, and the secrets the investigation exposes, in a small seaside town. The British series, which was a hit in the U.K. earlier this year, comes to BBC America starting Aug. 7.

“‘Broadchurch’ is the kind of storytelling that grabs your attention and keeps you riveted with every minute — which is exactly what we look for in an event series,” FOX Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly says. “We love the layered characters, we’ve seen how well-received it’s been in the U.K., and we’re lucky to be able to bring a new version of this mystery to the U.S. audience.”

Chris Chibnall, who created “Broadchurch,” will executive produce the FOX version. No one has been cast yet. Production is scheduled to start in January, and the series is set to air in the 2014-15 season.

“Broadchurch” joins a FOX miniseries roster that also includes “24: Live Another Day” and “Wayward Pines,” both of which are scheduled for 2014 debuts. A remake of “Shogun” and a miniseries about the O.J. Simpson murder case are also in development.
