FX Photo Studio for the Mac has now debuted from developer MacPhun, offering 159 classic and trendy effects for photographers. From artistic styles like lomography and tilt-shift, to paint and drawing styles and classic styles like vignettes, the program aims at making powerful image-processing tools available in an easy-to-use format.
FX Photo Studio for the Mac comes in two versions: the Pro version adds more advanced editing tools (Sharpen, Levels, Denoise, Color Balance and more), RAW file support and can handle resolutions up to 32 megapixels (the Standard edition supports up to 16 megapixels). Both versions offer the same filters, textures and other effects. Categories of filters include Lo-Fi, Cross Process, Glow, Sketches, Blur, Vintage, Grunge, Hollywood FX, Night Vision, Comics and more.
Users can save combinations of effects as presets, and utilize a variety of color-correction and editing tools, including Exposure, Brightness, Saturation, Hue, Crop, Rotate and others. Photo creations can be copied into iPhoto and posted to a number of social networks, including Flickr, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook. Customized photos can generate a “recipe” of the effects used that can be passed on to other users of the program. Pictures can be exported to a variety of standard formats, such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, PSD, PNG and TGA.
The program is on sale for a limited time exclusively through the Mac App Store, costing $15 for the Standard version and $30 for the Pro edition (normal prices $25 and $40, respectively) and requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later. The iOS edition sells for $2 and the iPad HD edition sells for $3.
