Deadline brings word today that former “Saturday Night Live” writer Neil Casey has been cast as the lead villain of the film. Casey can also be seen in the Paul Feig-created Yahoo! series Other Space. Details on his character are being kept under wraps for the time being, but given the franchise’s history, it’s likely he’ll have something supernatural up his sleeve.
Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones will star as the four ‘busters in the film with Chris Hemsworth as their trusty secretary. The film will also co-star Andy Garcia as the Mayor of New York City, Michael K. Williams as a character named “Hawkins,” with Matt Walsh as a character named “Rourke,” and New York City’s NY1 news anchor Pat Kiernan as — you guessed it — a news anchor.
Directed by Paul Feig from a script he co-wrote with Katie Dippold, Ghostbusters is currently filming in New York City with plans for additional photography in Boston. The film is targeting a July 22, 2016 release.
