Girls will be back on HBO this Sunday, and it doesn’t like it’ll be leaving the network anytime soon. HBO has renewed the Emmy-nominated comedy series for a fifth season ahead of its Season 4 premiere. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo announced the news Monday night at the Girls Season 4 premiere event and screening, which took place at the Museum of Natural History in New York.
Girls stars Lena Dunham (who also created the series and writes and directs multiple episodes per season), Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, Adam Driver, and Alex Karpovsky. Season 3 of the show ended with Hannah (Dunham), having serious relationship problems with her longtime boyfriend, Adam (Driver), before she discovered that she had been accepted into the prestigious writers’ workshop at the University of Iowa. At least for the start of Girls‘ fourth season, we will split time between Hannah in Iowa and the rest of her friends, who remain in New York.
Additionally, returning guest stars in Girls Season 4 include Peter Scolari and Becky Ann Baker as Hannah’s parents, Rita Wilson, reprising her role as the mother of Marnie (Williams), Jon Glaser, Gaby Hoffman, Louise Lasser and Bob Balaban. Meanwhile, we’ll also be introduced to plenty of new characters played by first-time guest stars, such as Ana Gasteyer and Anthony Edwards as Shoshana’s (Mamet) parents, Natasha Lyonne, Community‘s Gillian Jacobs, Marc Maron, Zachary Quinto, Jason Ritter, Maude Apatow and Spike Jonze.
Girls Season 4 premieres this Sunday, Jan. 11, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
