Google today said it has completed its proposed acquisition of select assets from HTC.

The deal includes portions of HTC’s handset design team, among other properties. Google worked with HTC to develop the Pixel 2 smartphone, which was released last year.

“As our hardware business enters its third year, we remain committed to building and investing for the long run,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of hardware. “Today, we start digging in with our new teammates, guided by the mission to create radically helpful experiences for people around the world, by combining the best of Google’s AI, software and hardware.”

HTC’s hardware team will remain in Taiwan, as Osterloh said the acquisition marks Google’s official expansion into Taipei, now the largest Google engineering site in the Asia-Pacific region.
