Google has updated its Google News product across all platforms with improved visibility of locally-sourced stories.
The local source tag in Google News highlights local news outlets that have covered large, national news stories. Part of the idea behind tagging such stories is to provide more credit to local news teams that may have uncovered or broken stories that are later picked up by larger media outlets. Google says local stories will be visible in the expanded story box online, and in the Android and iOS Google News & Weather apps.
Google News is free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store.
