HBO has handed a second season to “Vice,” ordering 12 episodes for the newsmagazine’s second run and slating them for 2014.
“’Vice’s’ fearless, irreverent style of news coverage has produced a uniquely provocative show,” said HBO president Michael Lombardo. “We look forward to more of their groundbreaking reporting in season two.”
Vice is hosted by Shane Smith, founder of media company “Vice,” and follows the “Vice” team into obscure subcultures and parts of the world for in depth reporting. Program drew a great deal of attention during its frosh run, when the “Vice” crew and Dennis Rodman visited North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-un.
“I honestly don’t think there is another network in the world that would have given us the opportunity and support that HBO did over the last year,” noted Smith. “We learned a lot over the course of shooting season one, and are insanely excited over our story selection for season two. Now that our various parasites, hernias and virulent rashes have been treated, we are ready in mind and in body to go out there and get the gold.”
“Vice” airs Friday nights at 11 p.m. on the pay network. The show is produced by Smith, Bill Maher and Eddy Moretti.
