Hitachi has introduced a slew of new hard drive solutions for Macs ahead of CES 2012. Among the options for Mac users include new internal hard drives as well as desktop and mobile hard drive solutions. The new drives range variously in capacity from 750GB through to 8TB.
The new Hitachi internal drives for Macs include the 2.5-inch, 5,400rpm 1TB Travelstar 5K1000 and the 3.5-inch, 7,200rpm 4TB Deskstar 7K4000. They will be packaged in Hitachi’s G-Technology solutions and have full support for the SATA 3 (6Gbps) standard.
The new desktop hard drives, the G-RAID and the G-Drive both utilize the Deskstar 7K4000 drive. The G-RAID is offered in an 8GB capacity (or 4TB in RAID 1) and will cost $900. The G-Drive can be had in 1TB through to 4TB capacities at a cost starting at $200 and topping out at $450. All the drives offer FireWire, eSATA and USB 2.0 connectivity.
The new mobile drives are both bus-powered, and do not require a separate power adapter. The mobile G-Drive is powered by a FireWire connection and comes with 1TB of storage for $200. The G-Drive mobile USB, is powered by a its namesake USB port. It comes in two flavors, a 750GB model for $150 and a 1TB version for $180.
While made specifically with Mac users in mind, any of the drives can be reformatted to work with other platforms and OSes.
