Huawei is set to release its most affordable quad-core smartphone to date. The new Ascend G520 will cost the equivalent of around $225 off-contract when it lands on Chinese store shelves next week. To help keeps the cost of the device in check, it has turned to lesser-known chipmaker MediaTek and its MT6589 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 512MB of RAM.
It is uncertain exactly what flavor of Android the device will run, although it can safely be assumed to run at least Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich.’ It centers on a 4.5-inch display that is said to be an IPS type, despite the low price, while it includes a 5-megapixel rear camera, more inline with its price point.
The G520 will land on China Mobile, with international launch details expected to be forthcoming.
