Facebook today said that former Google and Xiaomi exec Hugo Barra will join the company’s virtual reality team.
Barra plans to work on Facebook’s Oculus project after taking some time off.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Hugo shares my belief that virtual and augmented reality will be the next major computing platform. They’ll enable us to experience completely new things and be more creative than ever before. Hugo is going to help build that future.”
Barra most recently helped Chinese company Xiaomi expand beyond its own borders into India and other Asia/Pacific markets. Prior to Xiaomi, Barra helped develop the Android platform for Google. Barra announced plans to leave Xiaomi earlier this week for health reasons.
