Hulu Plus, the subscription video-on-demand unit of Hulu.com, has debuted a children’s section featuring video content kids can access on their own. “Hulu Kids,” the service features 43 programs with no commercials.

Categories to browse include “Dino Time” for videos featuring “Barney” and the reptiles from “Dinosaur Train,” and “Cartoon Favorites” for shows such as “Arthur” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”Kids can also scroll through shows from Nickelodeon and PBS, including “Thomas & Friends,” “Caillou” and “SpongeBob SquarePants,” among others.

The launch of Hulu Kids includes updates for the PlayStation 3, which allows kids to watch the shows on the TV from the couch. Those who use a Blu-ray Disc player remote with the PS3 can use that remote with the Hulu Plus app as well, according to a blog post by Hulu editor Rebecca Harper. Hulu Kids mirrors a similar move by Netflix, which last year launched a “Just for Kids” link for children younger than 12. That launch was thought to have caused a decline in Nickelodeon TV ratings, which both Netflix and Viacom deny.

You can try Hulu Plus free for a week. Viewers can also access children’s programming on the PC at www.hulu.com/kids.
