Instagram has introduced two new tools that the visually impaired can put to use.
First, Instagram is turning on automatic alternative text so the visually impaired can hear better, more detailed descriptions of photos that are displayed under the Feed, Explore, and Profile tabs. Instagram says this tool relies on object recognition to generate the photo descriptions.
Similarly, photos uploaded by the visually impaired will rely on custom alternative text for more accurate descriptions.
Instagram called these changes a first step forward improving the social network.
