Isis, the mobile payment venture backed by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, has decided to rebrand its service.
Isis is making the change after the rise of ISIS, a militant group based in the Middle East, has gained worldwide notoriety. “However coincidental, we have no interest in sharing a name with a group whose name has become synonymous with violence and our hearts go out to those who are suffering,” said Isis. “As a company, we have made the decision to rebrand.” Isis said it is still weighing what the new brand name will be. Whatever the name is, the change won’t affect the company’s product or services. Isis said it will share new details as soon as they are available. Isis launched in November last year.
It is available on many Android smartphones and enables tap-and-go mobile payments at select retailers nationwide
