iTunes 11 Could Ship Today

Apple’s long-delayed iTunes 11 could be released as soon as today, according to the Wall Street Journal. The claim — attributed to sources who have seen the software — is mentioned briefly in a profile of Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior VP in charge of Internet software and services. The delay was allegedly caused by “engineering issues” that forced Apple to rebuild some parts of the app.

iTunes 11 was first revealed September 12th, and scheduled to launch in October. Approaching the end of October, though, Apple suddenly announced that the software would only ship by the end of November. Version 11 is a major retooling, including a reorganized interface, performance improvements, and better iCloud media sync, among other changes.

When it goes live, the upgrade should be available directly through Software Update or as a download from apple.com/itunes. Apple has yet to offer a specific date, but has until the end of Friday unless another delay is coming.
