Deadline brings word that “iZombie” and “Damien” star Bradley James (who plays the titular Antichrist in the upcoming A&E series) has joined the cast of Underworld 5 as the primary antagonist. James joins a cast that includes Kate Beckinsale and Theo James as Selene and David, in addition to “Outlander” star Tobias Menzies.
Anna Foerster, who previously directed Menzies in “Outlander,” will helm the feature film, making her the first female to direct an entry in the series.
The first Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman, was released in 2003 and follows the adventures of Kate Beckinsale’s Selene, a vampire “Death Dealer” caught in the war between vampires and Lycans. It was followed by Underworld: Evolution in 2006, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009 and Underworld: Awakening in 2012. Combined, all four films in the franchise have grossed over $450 million at the global box office.
Underworld 5, scripted by Cory Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter), aims to begin production this October in Prague with a release date recently set for October 21, 2016.
