Last week, the news broke that Justin Lin, director of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five and the upcoming Fast & Furious 6, would not be returning for the seventh installment. He is still finishing the sixth film and Universal Pictures wants to get started on the next movie so that it can hit theaters next summer.
Deadline now says that James Wan, director of Saw, Death Sentence, Insidious, and the upcoming The Conjuring and Insidious Chapter 2, is in talks to take over the franchise.
According to the site, a deal has not been signed yet, but Wan himself tweeted this tonight – “Vroom Vroooom…”
Neil H. Moritz will produce Fast & Furious 7 and Chris Morgan is returning to write his fifth script for the franchise, and he will also executive produce.
