JBL has updated its iPhone and iPod speaker docks today, launching the On Stage IV and On Stage Micro III. Both make a huge break from earlier design and use a new “weave” design reminiscent of a fan blade. Audio output doesn’t change with the new design, which includes four transducers on the full-size On Stage and two in the Micro.
Apart from speaker output, the two differ mostly in portability. The On Stage IV can run for a full day of music on six AA batteries. On Stage Micro III takes up a smaller footprint and uses four AAA batteries to play for the same length of time. Both include an IR remote and can sync with a computer over USB as well as charge an iPhone or iPod.
Either JBL system is available now, only in black and at prices of $180 for the On Stage IV and $120 for the On Stage Micro III.
