TheWrap brings word that stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael of NBC‘s “The Carmichael Show” and Neighbors fame has been tapped to join returning star Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 5. Carmichael will next be seen reprising his role of Garf in this summer’s sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Growing Up Fisher) has already been tapped to play the female lead Izabella, described as “a street-smart tomboy who grew up an orphan and was raised in foster care.” The young character’s only friend is said to be a small Transformer, until she meets Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager.
Production on Transformers 5 is set to begin this summer in Detroit with shooting to pick up in other spots around the world. Michael Bay returns to the director’s chair for the film, which is set to be written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto will produce the sequel.
Transformers 5 is currently set to debut in theaters on June 23, 2017. It will be followed by a Bumblebee spin-off film in 2018, with Transformers 6 landing in 2019.
Combined, the previous four Transformers films have brought in over $3.7 billion at the global box office with 2014’s “Age of Extinction” the second-highest grossing in the series.
