Jon Stewart has taken a summer break from his hosting duties of his long-running comedy news program The Daily Show to appear in his first feature-length movie. But Daily Show fans have no need to worry because long-time correspondent John Oliver has stepped in to the role of host and he’s doing a fine and hilarious job in the role.
“I am John Oliver, and let’s all acknowledge for a moment that this is weird. This looks weird, it feels weird, it even sounds weird,” he said in his opening monologue, acknowledging his strong British accent. Later, he reads a letter from Stewart telling Oliver that he’ll do great and not to worry, because no big news breaks over the summer. This, of course, is the opportune time for Oliver to reveal that Stewart has only been gone a day and already a huge NSA snooping scandal has broken out.
