Fans of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas have something to rejoice about, there will be another Johnny Depp/Hunter Thompson film. Looks like FilmDistrict is releasing The Rum Diary, based on Thompson’s 1998-released novel (but written much earlier) about a world-weary journalist who escapes the rat race of New York City to work in Puerto Rico, where he becomes involved with a married woman and the dealings of her shady businessman husband.
“The Rum Diary” is a GK Films, Infinitum Nihil and Film Engine production produced by Johnny Depp, Christi Dembrowski, Anthony Rhulen, Robert Kravis, Tim Headington and Graham King. Bruce Robinson (Withnail and I) wrote and directed the adaptation, which also stars Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, and Amber Heard.
The release date will be October 11, 2011, according to Deadline.
