Walt Disney Pictures has announced that Josh Gad and Dame Judi Dench are reuniting with their Murder on the Orient Express director Kenneth Branagh for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s novel series Artemis Fowl.
Over 1200 candidates were looked at for the title role with Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw making his onscreen debut in the title role of a 12-year-old genius descended from a long line of criminal masterminds. He finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.
Gad has signed on for the role of Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies-and himself. Dench takes on the role of Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force.
Also onboard is Lara McDonnell (The Delinquent Season) in the role of elf hero Captain Holly Short, and Nonso Anozie (Cinderella) as Artemis’ formidable bodyguard Butler. Conor McPherson is adapting the script.
Production begins early next year in the U.K. ahead of an August 9th 2019 release.
