Oscar winner Julia Roberts is in talks to lead Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) new drama series Homecoming at Universal Cable Productions and Anonymous Content.
Based on Gimlet Media’s breakout podcast of the same name and written by Esmail. The series is a political thriller centering on a caseworker (Roberts) at a secret government facility, her supervisor, and a soldier.
The original podcast was presented in a collage of phone calls, therapy sessions and overheard conversations, with a voice cast that includes Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, David Schwimmer, Amy Sedaris and David Cross.
The project will reportedly not interfere with Roberts’ commitment to Annapurna Television’s limited series Today Will Be Different which she will headline and executive produce.
