The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly is set to write the script for Legendary‘s upcoming Pacific Rim 2. Connolly has also written the script for the upcoming Jurassic World sequel in addition to Legendary’s other giant-monster film, Kong: Skull Island.
Though plot details are being kept under wraps, the outlet reports a previous draft of the script took place many years after the original film and saw a world where Jaegers were commonplace.
Pacific Rim 2 was originally scheduled for release on April 7, 2017 before being pushed to August 4, 2017 and ultimately removed from the calendar altogether. In a statement, Universal declared they were “committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2” though no new release date for the film has been announced.
Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed just $101 million at the domestic box office but went on to take in over $411 million worldwide. The original film starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
