20th Century Fox will pull a All the Money in the World recast with its upcoming film adaptation of Angie Thomas’ novel The Hate U Give.
The studio has announced that they are replacing YouTube star Kian Lawley with Riverdale star K.J. Apa in the upcoming drama. Reshoots are set to take place from this week in Atlanta with all of Lawley’s scenes being reshot.
The switch out follows in the wake of the resurfacing of videos in which Lawley is seen saying multiple racial slurs. This was amjot blow to a film whichis heavily inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
Apa, who has had to dye his hair an even darker red than his usual gig on Riverdale, will shoot ‘Hate’ then jump into the comedy The Last Summer before returning to work on the third season of Riverdale.
Amanda Stenberg, Regina Hall, Anthony Mackie, Common and Issa Rae co-star in The Hate U Give which has yet to set a release date.
