Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Julius Erving, AKA Dr.J, to the list of hoops legends slated to appear in the 2K Sports simulation NBA 2K12 this October.
The pair will join Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird in a new mode called “NBA’s Greatest,” where players relive 15 classic NBA moments with 15 different stars.
Players can then unlock these superstars and their teams and pit them against modern-day NBA squads.
Jason Argent, marketing vice president for 2K, says the mode should tap into those age-old questions about how the league’s legends such as Jordan would stack up against today’s players like Kobe Bryant.
“You’ll be able to go back and unlock one of Jordan’s famous ’80s/’90s teams and play them against today’s Lakers, and finally sort of end the debate once and for all,” Argent says.
The mode is similar to the Jordan Challenge introduced in NBA 2K11, where players relived 10 great moments from Jordan’s career.
As with those games, “NBA’s Greatest” matchups will be recreated to look historically accurate, right down to the short shorts of the ’70s and ’80s.
Two weeks ago, 2K revealed Jordan, Magic and Bird would each appear as cover stars on NBA 2K12.
Argent says more players featured in “NBA’s Greatest” will be revealed in the coming weeks.
