TVLine reports that Katie McGrath (Dracula, Merlin, Jurassic World) has landed the role of Lena Luthor, sister of Superman arch-nemesis Lex, in the second season of Supergirl where she will have a recurring role. The outlet described this version of the character as follows:
Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as CEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.”
The character previously appeared in live action on the hit series Smallville where it was revealed Cassidy Freeman’s Tess Mercer learned she was actually Lena Luthor.
Melissa Benoist leads the cast of Supergirl as the title character alongside Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, with Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Supergirl season two is also adding recurring roles for Lynda Carter as the President of the United States, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
Supergirl airs at 8/7c p.m. Mondays on The CW.
