Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) has, according to a story in TheWrap, signed on to headline Men in Black trilogy director Barry Sonnenfeld’s new comedy, Nine Lives. The film, scripted by Daniel Antoniazzi and Ben Shiffrin, follows a workaholic executive who, following some kind of accident, finds himself trapped in the body of his family’s pet cat.
Spacey, who also recently took home a Golden Globe for his work on the hit Netflix series “House of Cards,” is no stranger to playing non-human characters. He played the robotic GERTY in Duncan Jones’ sci-fi thriller Moon and also lent his voice to Pixar’s early animated feature A Bug’s Life, playing the villanous Hopper. He also has a few recent comedies on his resume, including both Horrible Bosses films and David Dobkin’s 2007 Christmas comedy Fred Claus. Coming up, he’ll play President Richard Nixon opposite Michael Shannon’s Elvis Presley in director Liza Johnson’s Elvis & Nixon and provide the voice of the title character in 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s Boss Baby.
EuropaCorp is both financing and producing Nine Lives with its US film president Liza Ellzey overseeing the project.
