Although there are quite a few L. Frank Baum-inspired adaptations on the way. NBC’s new pilot, “Tin Man,” is not among them, despite its Oz-friendly title. Variety reports that the small screen project, arriving from Transformers: Age of Extinction screenwriter Ehren Kruger, is instead an original crime thriller with a science fiction twist.
Set in the near future, the Universal TV project follows a state-of-the-art robot accused of murder and young woman who comes to his defense in the courtroom.
Kruger, whose credits include all three Transformers sequels, also wrote John Frankenheimer’s Reindeer Games, Gore Verbinski’s The Ring and Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm. He will serve as screenwriter and executive producer on “Tin Man.”
