Lenovo has introduced an upgraded version of its ThinkPad 10 from last year, one which takes aim at the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The new ThinkPad 10 retains many of the characteristics of the original, including a 10.1-inch 1920×1200-resolution display, but this time it includes the ThinkPad Pen Pro stylus and an increased focus on pen-based input via the handwriting recognition app Writeit, allowing writing to be converted to text in nearly any text field.

Behind the Gorilla Glass 3-protected multi-touch display is an Intel Atom Z8500 or Z870 quad-core processor running Windows 10, with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, and microSD expansion. Using a rear 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing counterpart, it includes 1W stereo speakers, a triple-array of microphones, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, cellular connection options for both 3G and 4G LTE, and an included 32Wh battery said to last for up to ten hours. For enterprise users, it can also arrive with optional dTPM encryption, a fingerprint reader, and a smart card reader.

The 617 gram (1.3 pounds) tablet will ship with a number of optional accessories this summer, in a similar manner to the Surface range. The main ThinkPad 10 itself will start from $550, while the Folio and Ultrabook Keyboards will cost $110 and $120 respectively. A dock will cost $129, a QuickShot Cover will be $45, and the ThinkPad Pen Pro stylus will be an optional $40 expense.
