LG in an unusual post-CES launch has announced the Optimus Pad LTE. It sports the 8.9-inch, 1280×768 IPS screen with 4G for Internet access. LG moving from the dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2, used in a pass version, to a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon.
The Korean company has dropped attempts to push 3D with this version and instead relies on a single eight-megapixel camera on the back versus the old pair of five-megapixel sensors. There is front two-megapixel camera for video chatting. Plus there is HDMI video out on the unit and microSDHC card slot. Android 3.2 ships on the tablet.
The battery is rated at 6,800mAh which should offset the extra battery drain from the LTE useage.
Details on when the Optimus Pad LTE will ship were not disclosed. LG plans to cater to its home country first before expanding elsewhere. In North America, the first Optimus Pad came to Rogers in Canada and T-Mobile in the US as the G-Slate.
